How the calculator works

  1. System size: your monthly units ÷ 30 days ÷ (5 peak sun hours × 80% system efficiency). In Pakistan, 1 kW produces about 120 units a month.
  2. Panels: the size is rounded up to whole 585 W panels, and the nearest standard inverter size is chosen.
  3. Price: panels at about Rs 30 per watt, on-grid inverters at about Rs 25,000 per kW, hybrid inverters at about Rs 35,000 per kW, lithium batteries at about Rs 60,000 per kWh, plus structure, wiring and installation.
  4. Savings: the units your system produces (up to your own use) × your rate per unit. Payback is the total price ÷ yearly savings.

These are estimates for planning. Installers set their own prices; ask for a written quotation before you buy.

Solar price FAQ

At October 2026 market rates, a 5 kW on-grid system (9 panels, 5.26 kW) costs about Rs 539,800 (5.4 lakh) installed, and a hybrid system with a 5 kWh battery about Rs 889,800 (8.9 lakh). Prices depend on the panel and inverter brand, battery and installation.

About Rs 959,600 (9.6 lakh) for an on-grid system, or Rs 1,659,600 (16.6 lakh) for a hybrid system with a 10 kWh battery, including installation and net metering.

About 120 units a month on average in Pakistan (around 4 units a day). Production is higher in summer and lower in winter and on cloudy days.

Divide your monthly units by 120 to get the system size in kW, then divide by the panel size. For example, 600 units a month needs about 5 kW, which is 9 panels of 585 W. The calculator above does this for you.

An on-grid system works with WAPDA/DISCO power and can send extra units back to the grid through net metering, but switches off during load shedding. A hybrid system adds a battery so you keep power during load shedding and at night. An off-grid system runs only on solar and batteries, with no grid connection.

On-grid and hybrid estimates include an approximate cost for the net metering application and meter. Net metering rules and buyback rates are set by NEPRA and have changed in recent years, so check the current terms with your installer or DISCO.

It gives a realistic estimate using average market prices, but your final price depends on brands, roof type, cable length and the installer. Ask two or three installers for a quotation before you buy.
